The West Gate Regional Library, a publicly funded and managed library affiliated with the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library, serves nearly 400,000 residents in the city of Tampa on Tampa Bay, along Florida's Gulf Coast. Founded in 1912 and formally opened to the public in 1917, In response to the increasing need for library services, the Westgate Branch was opened in 1969, further rededicated in 1975, and then, in 1995, renamed West Gate Regional. Today, it added to the county library system's overall resources, which now total more than two million volumes of books and more than 143,000 eBooks, more than 64,000 audio files, and nearly 300,000 video files. Of these items in inventory, more than 9.5 million are circulated each year. Additionally, the county has an aggregate of more than 600,000 registered borrowers with more than four million visits in all 27 locations.
