The New York Public Library (NYPL) serves 3.4 million residents in the city of New York. The library maintains more than 20 million volumes and circulates more than 26 million items per year. The library was founded in 1895 and is dedicated to providing free open access to its physical and electronic information and services. In addition, the library also presents thousands exhibitions and public programs centered around technology English as a second language, and literacy.
