The Port Tampa City Library serves residents in the city of Tampa, on Tampa Bay, along the Gulf Coast of Florida. Initially, it was initiated by the Port Tampa City Woman's Club in 1951 and served the city until 1961, when management was assumed by the Tampa Library System, which later merged with the county library in 1984. The Port Tampa City Library was relocated and expanded from a 1,500-square-foot building to a 5,700-square-foot one in order to adequately meet the growing demand for library services. It adds to the overall collection of the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library, which currently includes more than two million volumes of books, more than 143,000 eBooks, more than 64,000 audio files, and close to 300,000 video files. Over 9.5 million of these items in inventory are exchanged annually. Furthermore, the county has more than 600,000 registered borrowers overall, and there have been more than four million visits to all 27 sites.
