The Paul Laurence Dunbar Branch Library is a publicly funded and managed library, serving more than 5,000 residents in the city of Leesville. It is an affiliate branch of the Vernon Parish Library, which was founded in 1956 and is located in Courthouse. The Paul Laurence Dunbar Branch was completed in 1971 with a 320-square-foot, standard-shelf building, and in 2007, the Albany-Springfield Branch opened. It contributes to the overall collection and services of the county library system, which includes over 91,000 books and serial volumes, more than 37,000 E-Books, almost 3,000 audio files, and more than 7,000 video files. The parish library system circulates more than 135,000 items annually. It is just one of the four libraries and the bookmobile that make up the Vernon Parish Library, which has more than 35,000 registered borrowers and more than 100,000 visitors annually across its three major branches and bookmobile service.
