The Central Branch Library is a publicly funded and managed library serving more than 220,000 residents of the city of Baton Rouge, the state capital of Louisiana, and a city on the Mississippi River. The Central Branch is an affiliate library of the East Baton Rouge Parish Library (EBRPL), which maintains over 55,000 books, 70 magazine titles, 10 newspapers, and 3,500 videos, DVDs, audiobooks, and CDs. Founded in 1940, it was initially on W.R. Edwards Store across from Central School and now occupies 18,263 square feet of space. Along with the main library, a book selling facility, and a mobile library, there are 13 other branches, including the Central Branch, that collectively receive more than 2.5 million visitors and more than 300,000 registered borrowers. The branch has a book collection of 100,000 volumes, and it can cater to up to 125 patrons. The branch's facilities also include a large meeting room capable of holding 100 people, which can be split into two separate rooms for library programming, a special story time room for children, and free wireless Internet access.
