The Gretna Branch Library is a publicly funded and managed library that serves more than 17,000 residents in the city of Gretna, in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. Established in 1946 and officially opened to the public in 1949, the Jefferson Parish Library's mission is to provide the highest quality library service to our citizens and to supply the tools needed for information, enrichment, and enjoyment. To adhere to the mission and fully cater to its patrons, it has expanded, and the Gretna Branch is only one of the 16 branches with a 5,800-square-foot building that opened in 2010. The branch contributes to the overall collection and services of the parish library system, which includes more than 740,000 books and serial volumes, more than 14,000 E-Books, more than 181,000 audio files, and more than 40,000 video files. The parish library system circulates more than 1.6 million items, has more than 123,000 registered borrowers, and receives more than 1.2 million visitors annually across its 16 locations. Additionally, the facility is equipped with a 1,000-square-foot meeting room that can accommodate 58 patrons, 10 public PCs with shared seating for 16 people, and free WiFi access with 27 ports to plug in a user's laptop.
