The Santa Maria Public Library System serves over 170,000 residents of Santa Maria in Santa Barbara County. It opened its doors in 1961 and has since expanded to include the main library, branch libraries in Cuyama, Guadalupe, Los Alamos, and Orcutt, and a Bookmobile. The library maintains 219,130 volumes and circulates 563,836 items per year. It also provides access to government documents, reference resources, genealogy & obituaries, job training resources, literature collections, articles, and language learning. Among its services and programs, the library offers passport processing, storytime events, and homework help.
