The Valencia Park/Malcolm X Library, a part of the San Diego Public Library, serves 1.3 million residents in Southeast San Diego. The Library System maintains 5.2 million volumes and circulates 6.8 million items annually. Opened in 1996, the Library occupies a 26,000-square-foot building with a Legler Benbough Teen IDEA Lab featuring STEAM activities, 39 computers for public use, WiFi, a multipurpose meeting room, and a study room. It provides African Diaspora collections, homework help, and programs for children, teens, and adults.
