The Chinatown/Him Mark Lai Branch Library is a part of the San Francisco Public Library, which serves 815,200 people in San Francisco. The Library System owns 2.7 million books and circulates 10.6 million items each year. Chinatown Branch Library is one of the Carnegie Libraries founded in 1921. It was previously known as the North Beach Branch until November 2010, when it was renamed Chinatown/Him Mark Lai Branch to better reflect the community it serves. It has collections of English, Chinese, and Vietnamese books, magazines, audiobooks, CDs, and DVDs, as well as Asianweek newspapers, Asian Interest publications and periodicals, and Chinese- and Asian-American history materials. It also provides various programs for children and adults.
