The McMillan Memorial Library is a division of the Rusk County Library System that serves about 2,270 residents in the City of Overton. The library was founded as the Overton Public Library in 1934 and became a branch of the Rusk County Library System in 1937. It was renamed in memory of Dr. Bruce McMillan's wife and son in 1956 and has since expanded its collections and services. It is currently housed in an 11,383-square-foot structure featuring a kids' section, a sizable program room, an audio-visual room, and a study room. The McMillan Library holds over 108,500 books and serial volumes in its collection, circulates 111,700 items annually, and hosts family storytimes, summer reading programs, movie shows, and other events for patrons of all ages.
