The Harris County Public Library serves 1.9 million residents in Houston. The library maintains 2.6 million volumes and circulates 9.4 million items per year. Founded in 1921, HCPL started as a small book station in homes, stores, and post offices. Today, it has grown to 26 libraries serving Harris County, Texas. In addition to offering all the materials and services you would anticipate from a traditional public library, HCPL also offers some you might not have anticipated, such as maker spaces with 3D printers and laser cutters, a lending collection of gardening tools, and our mobile super library, the Curiosity Cruiser. It is not only a location to borrow books and make copies.
