The Ector County Library serves over 140,000 residents in the city of Odessa. It opened its doors in 1938 at the old courthouse jail with 800 donated books and has since expanded its collections and services. Approximately 576,200 items are circulated annually, with 172,885 volumes maintained on hand. These include print books, books on CD, DVDs, Blu-rays, and southwestern history and genealogy collections. The library offers meeting rooms, study areas, hotspots, tablets, Chromebooks, WiFi, notary, wireless printing, exam proctoring, computer classes, storytimes, crafts, curbside pickup, and other library events.
