The Meijer Branch Library is public-funded and government-operated under the Jackson District Library (JDL) System. It serves more than 30.000 residents in the city of Jackson, the county seat of Jackson County. Since the inception of the JDL in 1865, which was initiated then by the Jackson Young Men's Association (YMA) as a reading room with only 239 donated books, 21 newspapers, and four magazine subscriptions, it was formally incorporated in 1869. JDL opened Meijer in 1928, and today it is a 13,797-square-foot facility with 23 public computers, family zones, a study and digital media room, community rooms with kitchenettes, and Wi-Fi, to name just a few of the services available. Meijer Branch adds to the county collection's overall collections, which total more than 400,000 book and serial volumes, 16,000 eBooks, 34,000 audio recordings, and more than 27,000 video recordings. In addition, all sites logged approximately 700,000 visitors, nearly 1.1 items circulated, and more than 64,000 registered borrowers.
