The McCarty Library serves over 80,000 residents of Flint City, the seat of Genesee County. The library is publicly funded and a branch of the Genesee District Library, which maintains 617,300 volumes and circulates about two million items per year.  The branch's library services were established in 1942, and it now has a unique variety of memory books, graphic novels, gardening manuals, cookbooks, DVDs, and books on Christian, social science, politics, and urban fiction topics. It also provides free public computers, WiFi, fax, and copy services.
