The Hanover Branch Library serves residents of the city of Hanover in Jackson County, Michigan. It is public-funded and managed by the Jackson District Library (JDL), which includes 11 more branches. In 1865, JDL was initiated by the Jackson Young Men's Association (YMA) as a reading room with only 239 donated books, 21 newspapers, and four magazine subscriptions. It was formally incorporated in 1869. The Hanover branch was initially opened on the second floor of the fire station in 1927 until 1976, when the collection was transferred downstairs. Today, it is a 1,097-square-foot facility, which adds to the county collection's overall collections, which total more than 400,000 book and serial volumes, 16,000 eBooks, 34,000 audio recordings, and more than 27,000 video recordings. In addition, all sites logged approximately 700,000 visitors, nearly 1.1 items circulated, and more than 64,000 registered borrowers.
