The Pearl Bailey Library serves the people in the southeast community of Newport News and is a Newport News Public Library member. The Library System maintains 230,000 volumes and circulates 442,539 items per year. The Pearl Bailey Library first began in 1949 and reopened as the Pearl Bailey Library in 1985, renamed after the singer, actress, and scholar Pearl Mae Bailey. It provides Adaptive Computer Equipment, a Computer Lab, and a Makerspace featuring Cricut, Cameo, Silhouette Curio, a Sewing Machine, and a 3D printer. It offers a wide range of services, amenities, and programs, including free WiFi, computer classes, and notary services.
