The Tippecanoe Branch Library, a publicly funded and managed library and an affiliate library of the Madison Public Library (MPL), serves almost 600,000 residents in Milwaukee, a city in Wisconsin on Lake Michigan's western shore. Founded in 1916, nearly a century ago, it started to provide services to suburban communities while it was still part of the Town of Lake. Today, Alicia Ashman is only one of the eight branches, plus the central library – MPL, plus the Dream Bus, with a total aggregated visits of more than 2.1 million and more than 163,000 registered borrowers, while the overall collection and services of MPL, which maintains almost 800,000 volumes and circulates almost four million items per year, Additionally, the Tippecanoe Branch has a book drop which is available 24/7 with an automated book drop and laptop kiosks for in-library laptop check-out; new trees and perennials, rain garden swales in the parking lot and along the south side of the library; and permeable parking lot surface to reduce storm water runoff.
