The Richard Byrd Library is a branch of the Fairfax County Public Library (FCPL) that serves 32,960 residents in the City of Springfield. The FCPL maintains 2.1 million volumes and circulates approximately 10.1 million items annually. The Richard Byrd Branch opened in 1958 as a storefront and moved to its current building in 1965. In addition to books, books on CDs, magazines, newspapers, DVDs, and World language collections, it offers 21 Internet stations with Microsoft Office packages, two large book sales per year, book selection services, and meeting rooms.
