The Newport News Public Library consists of four branches serving 182,590 residents of Newport News. It includes the Main Street Library, Pearl Bailey Library, Virgil I. Grissom Library, and Public Law Library. The library system maintains over 277,000 volumes and circulates approximately 1 million items per year. It provides a meeting room, computers with printing, copy/scan/fax, notary, and in-person and virtual programming for children and adults. It offers beginner-level computer classes for adults, health & wellness events, monthly workshops and meet-ups, book clubs, homeschool resources, and virtual author talks. Additionally, the library has a makerspace for crafting and technology creations.
