The Mattoon-Hutchins Branch Library, a publicly funded and managed library and an affiliate library under the Shawano County Library, serves 438 residents in Mattoon, a village in Shawano County, Wisconsin. The Mattoon-Hutchins Branch contributes to the overall collection and services of Shawano County Library which maintains a little more than one hundred twenty thousand volumes and circulates more than three hundred thousand items per year. Shawano County Library started service in 1934 however, its humble beginning can be traced as early as 1899 with only 272 English books and 65 German books. Today, Mattoon-Hutchins Branch Library is only one of the six branches of Shawano County Library.
