The Local History/Special Collections is a location of the Alexandria Library located inside the Barrett Branch Library. Alexandria Library serves over 141,000 residents in the city of Alexandria, maintains 437,640 volumes, and circulates approximately 1.1 million items annually. The Local History/Special Collections holds collections of Alexandria and Virginia history, genealogy, and the Civil War records, as well as photographs, microfilms, rare books, maps, and periodicals. It offers genealogy research requests, house history research, online exhibits, and other related services.
