The Juniper Branch Library is a publicly funded and managed library that serves more than 1.6 million residents in the city of Phoenix. It is an affiliate branch of the Phoenix Public Library, which was founded in 1897 and started as a women's Friday Club with 14 women who organized to start a public library. In 1996, in response to the growing need for library services, the Juniper Branch was opened, which contributes to the overall collection and services of the county library system, which includes more than 118,000 books and serial volumes, more than 18,000 e-books, more than 7,000 audio files, and more than 17,000 video files. Additionally, the library system hosts over 221,000 visitors a year at its 17 sites, circulates over 332,000 items, and has over 23,000 registered borrowers.
