The Eastern Shore of Virginia Public Library System, established in January 1957, serves 52,960 residents of Accomack and Northampton Counties. It operates four locations, including Eastern Shore Public Library & Heritage Center, Cape Charles Memorial Library, Northampton Free Library, and Chincoteague Island Library. The Public Library System maintains over 140,000 volumes and circulates 153,230 items per year, and also offers interlibrary loan requests from other libraries. Services available at the library include meeting rooms, WiFi, print/copy/scan, notary, exam proctoring, storytime, tech help, and other library programs. In addition, it provides 30 public access computers across its locations.
