The Chincoteague Island Library serves about 3,280 residents in the City of Chincoteague Island and Northern Accomack County. The library is affiliated with the Eastern Shore of Virginia Public Library System, which maintains 129,966 volumes and circulates 153,230 items annually. Chincoteague Island Library is a privately sponsored free library open to the public from Monday through Saturday. It has six computers, wireless internet access, and book discussion groups. It offers Tales 4 Tots Programs featuring preschool stories, songs, finger plays, and crafts. It also provides Adult education in partnership with the Academy for Lifetime Learning, Literacy classes, and a Benefit Shop for used books, notebooks, and music.
