The Howland Green Library and the New Bedford Free Public Library serve about 100,941 residents in the city of New Bedford in Bristol County. The library opened in 1964 and currently maintains a collection of about 33,000 books, magazines, music, and DVDs, including materials in the Spanish language for children and adults. It also holds language learning books, cookbooks, picturebooks, and citizenship guides and provides a meeting room for public use during library hours from Monday to Saturday.
