The Newark Public Library, created in 1847, serves 277,140 residents in the city of Newark and is located opposite Washington Park. The library maintains over 1.6 million volumes and circulates 201,345 items per year. It provides a Makerspace where patrons can engage in hands-on workshops and creative projects. It also offers public computers and internet access at all the library locations, as well as mobile hotspots, printers, and scanners available at the main library. Some of the library's featured programs include General Education Development (GED) classes, English Language for Second Learners, family playtime, storytime, arts and crafts, job search drop-in, and gaming.
