The Greenwood County Library System is a publicly funded and managed library serving almost 70,000 residents in the city of Greenwood, the county seat of Greenwood County, South Carolina. Though it was formally founded in 1986, as early as 1901 it started with only 150 books and a set of encyclopedias in a room established by the Ladies Library Association of Greenwood. Today, with a mission to help all Greenwood County citizens be more connected, informed, and entertained through free access to its resources and programs, the library maintains more than 100,000 book and serial volumes, more than 40,000 eBooks with 5,115 audio and 5,294 video files, and circulates almost 250,000 items per year. Additionally, it has more than 320,000 visits and 53,695 registered borrowers.
