The Potomac Branch Library is a publicly funded and managed library that serves almost 4,000 residents in the city of Indian Head, in Charles County, Maryland. It is an affiliate branch of the Charles County Public Library (CCPL). CCPL was founded in 1922 by the Homemaker's Clubs of Charles County with the help of Extension Agent Paul Dennis “PD” Brown and started with only 3,000 volumes. To make up for the library system's current expansion and fully serve its patrons, the Potomac Branch Library was opened in 1959. It contributes to the system's overall collection and services, which now total more than 207,000 books and serial volumes, more than 74,000 e-books, more than 8,000 audio files, and more than 19,000 video files. Over 79,000 people have registered as borrowers with the library system, which has five sites plus the mobile library and circulates more than 800,000 items with more than 600,000 visits each year.
