The Smithfield Branch Library serves the black Alabamians in the city of Birmingham. The library began in 1918 as the Booker T. Washington Library and was dedicated in 1956 as the Smithfield Branch Library, currently housed in three-leased rooms of the Masonic Temple Building. It is a division of the Birmingham Public Library, which maintains over 754,000 volumes and circulates 874,679 items per year, including digital materials through the different library Apps.
