The Minneapolis Central Library serves more than 425,000 residents in the city of Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. The library first opened its doors in 1885 and was renovated in 1961 to become a modern building with larger spaces. In 2006, a new building for the library was dedicated, which houses the largest collections of library materials in the Hennepin County Library System and over 300 computers for public use. The library holds more than 4.2 million books and serial volumes and circulates about 15.9 million items. Every day of the week, the library is open.
