The Kansas City Public Library serves 250,000 residents in Kansas City, Jackson County. It has nine branches, a bookmobile, a digital library, and a Central Library located in the First National Bank Building at 10th and Baltimore. Founded in December 1873, the library provides both school and library services, maintaining 1.2 million volumes and circulating 1.9 million items per year. It provides study and meeting rooms, public computers, WiFi, printing, copying/faxing/scanning, notary, tech-to-go services, and various library programs for all ages. Additionally, the library houses a seed library at the Ruiz Branch where patrons can obtain varieties of flower and vegetable seeds as well as attend free basic gardening classes that center on composting, beekeeping, seed saving, and others.
